When I think of The Body Shop the first thing that comes to mind is beautifully scented body butters and fruity tubs of lip balm, but for the past couple of months I've been trying more and more of their superb makeup range (I'll be featuring lots of their fab products on here very soon) so when this STUNNING palette from their new 'Down to Earth' collection arrived on my doorstep a couple of weeks ago, I was stoked to try it out for myself.
After a quick skim through my emails on Tuesday I was absolutely thrilled to find out that I've been shortlisted in both the Beauty and Lifestyle categories in this years Littlewoods Ireland Blog Awards! I was extremely lucky to make the longlist last year, so I'm absolutely delighted that I've managed to make it to the shortlist this time round in not one, but TWO categories along with an array of fantastic bloggers.
After exactly four weeks and three days of one of the most testing spending bans I've ever been on, I was finally able to place the mother of all orders this month, and treat myself to a few goodies on my never ending beauty wishlist (I'm not going to feature all of them in this post because honestly we'd be here till September, but they will be making an appearance around here in the next few weeks) I thought I'd share a few of the beauty bits I picked up with you all, and give you my initial thoughts/first impressions of some products I've been lusting over/trialling/falling in love with!
Oh July, you've been a right little pain haven't you? After an unbelievably hectic month I FINALLY have a few hours to myself, to sit down and write some posts with a big ass mug of tea and a half eaten box of chocolate chip cookies. BLISS. I've been struggling trying to write this post for at least a week now but somewhere along the way I lost my blogging mojo and the thought of turning on my laptop filled me with utter dread. SO,instead of half assing things I thought I'd take a little time off to refocus. It's taking a little longer than I expected to get back into the swing of things but hopefully with a little patience and a LOT of motivation things will go back to normal soon enough.
When I first started blogging I didn't really invest in my blog at all. I used a free Blogger template that I found online, I took my blog photos on a 5 megapixel smartphone camera and the only props/backgrounds I used were white bed sheets from Argos and an old fashion magazine that I found at the back of my bookshelf. For around 6/7+ months I didn't invest in my blog, and although that worked for me at the time (you definitely DO NOT HAVE TO invest money into your blog if you don't want to/can't afford to) I decided to splash some cash on some shiny new equipment to up my blogging game and make things a little bit easier for myself.
A few weeks ago I received a beautiful little package from Crownbrush UK, a brand that I've been reading a TON of reviews on lately, but up until a few weeks ago I hadn't actually tried them out for myself. The lovely PR peeps were very secretive about what they were sending me (which was very exciting) so I was over the moon when I ripped open my parcel to find this stunning collection of brushes* I 100% believe that good makeup brushes are the KEY to creating a flawless makeup look so I'm always on the lookout for some fab little tools to make my daily application that much easier, and thanks to Crownbrush I'm one step closer to picture perfect makeup. SO, which brushes did I receive and what did I think of them?
For the last few weeks I've been feeling a bit....meh. If you've read my June in Photos post then you'd know that I've been a little run down lately after contracting a nasty infection, so I've had zero energy/motivation to do anything other than recover. Instead of pushing myself to plan/write blog posts, finish essays and keep up with my evergrowing to-do list during those few weeks, I was spending more and more time aimlessly scrolling through social media to pass the time while I waited for my motivation to miraculously come back. After my mood hit an all time low I decided to take a 48 hour social media break so I could focus on building my energy back up, lifting my spirits and getting myself back on track.
This time last month I was writing my monthly round up whilst curled up on my couch with a mug of tea and absolutely no idea what direction I was going in. Today, I'm lying in bed about to take my sixth antibiotic of the day with, wait for it.....ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT DIRECTION I WANT THIS POST TO GO IN. So I'm going to wing it. Again.
Between rediscovering old favourites and shopping for some new goodies, I've fallen head over heels with A LOT of beauty bits and bobs over the past few months (even though I'm kind of supposed to be on a spending ban...oops) From makeup to skincare and everything in between, I've been trying & testing products to my hearts content and I've finally settled on some absolute favourites that I seriously can't go without! So if you want to know what my current beauty must haves are then keep reading!
You know that whole 'The bloggers made me buy it' excuse we all like to throw around every so often? Yeah well they did, and now I'm broke. Thanks Hannah Gale. After reading this beauties latest post I decided it was about time I finally jumped onto the NYX bandwagon, and boy was it worth it. After a little Boots shopping spree (I had to take advantage of all those 3 for 2 offers right?) I decided to pick up two of the raved about soft matte lip creams (Stockholm & Copenhagen) and the dewy setting spray and well...I fell head over heels and I've already ordered four more even though I have an Internet bill to pay. Lol worth it.
